Pupil Premium

PUPIL PREMIUM

What is the Pupil Premium?

“The Pupil premium was introduced by the Coalition Government in 2011 to provide additional support for looked after children and those from low income families.  The extra funding is made available to schools to help them narrow the gap that still exists between pupils from disadvantaged and more affluent backgrounds.”

Which students are eligible for the grant?

Students who either currently claim Free School Meals (FSM) or those who have claimed this support at some point during the previous 6 years.

The amount of funding the school gets for each student is £985 per year.

In addition to this, schools get £2,410 for every student who has been adopted from care or who has left care.

At Woolmer Hill we recognise that students may be socially disadvantaged and either not registered for FSM or narrowly miss out on qualifying for this support.  In recognition of this, our strategies to narrow the achievement gap may include a broader range of students than identified by these criteria.

COVID CATCH UP PREMIUM

What is the Catch Up Premium?

The government announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up lost time after school closures in the summer term of 2020. This is especially important for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds. This funding includes:

  • a one-off universal £650 million catch up premium for the 2020 to 2021 academic year to ensure that schools have the support they need to help all students make up for lost teaching time
  • a £350 million National Tutoring Programme to provide additional, targeted support for those children and young people who need the most help most.

School allocations will be calculated on a per student basis.

Mainstream school will get £80 for each student from reception to year 11 inclusive.

Using Covid Catch-up Premium

Woolmer Hill will use this funding for specific activities to supportstudents to catch up for lost teaching over the previous months.

(While schools can use their funding in a way that suits their cohort and circumstances, they are expected to use this funding for specific activities which will help students catch up on missed education).

Please see the document here with details of the summer school which was offered to Year 6 students in July and August 2021.
