11/05/2026Be a Journalist Day at Woolmer Hill
Last Friday the library was turned into a newsroom and Woolmer Hill Year 8 students stepped into the world of journalism for Be a Journalist Day.
Throughout the day, pupils developed their news writing, interviewing techniques, and media skills, working collaboratively to create their own front‑page stories.
An inspiring experience that strengthened literacy, sharpened critical thinking, and boosted confidence — we are proud of their enthusiasm and creativity!

7/05/2026We recently welcomed Phil Jebb into school to present to years 7 and 8 on the theme of personal and community safety.
Phil speaks on behalf of www.fearless.org; a dedicated youth service of the charity Crimestoppers.
Years 9 and 10 were given talks with similar themes around staying safe in community and social situations. It was heartening to see how well students engaged with the discussions and the Q&A elements of Phil’s presentations.

6/05/2026Our Year 7 Geographers took advantage of the recent glorious Spring sunshine to explore deciduous woodland ecosystems and record their observations.
We are so lucky to have such amazing outdoor learning opportunities at our fingertips.

5/05/2026Year 9 Business and Enterprise Day was a huge success. Teams of 8 ran manufacturing businesses for the day, taking on the roles of CEO, Head of Marketing, HR and Finance Manager to name but a few.
A huge thank you to our business volunteers from all areas of the working world, giving young people a chance to talk to 'business ambassadors' about their jobs and what their roles entail.
4/05/2026After a very successful Plant a tree for your community event, we have now achieved the Woodland Trust Green Tree Silver Award.
Our school community have worked hard to achieve this and we have placed all our saplings with loving families, where they will be enjoyed by generations to come.

1/05/2026Our Year 8 students recently took part in the @Literacy_Trust We Wonder: Protect Our Nature reading challenge and competition, a brilliant collaboration between the Science Department and the Library.
Students were challenged to read widely about nature, sustainability and ecosystems, then apply their knowledge creatively by designing their own green spaces. From biodiverse habitats to thoughtful eco‑friendly features, the designs show how reading can inspire real-world environmental thinking.
Our students produced some stunning designs and the best two have been entered into the competition. A brilliant example of how cross-curricular teamwork can spark curiosity, creativity and environmental responsibility.
