School Trips

Throughout the course of a student's time at Woolmer Hill they will be offered many opportunities to go on a diverse range of school trips and residentials and we encourage everyone to join in and attend as many as they can.

Some of these trips take part within the school day as a key part of the curriculum to enhance students' learning in the classroom, for example:

  • RE trips to a Sikh temple, Hindu Mandir and a Mosque
  • Science trips to Marwell Zoo and Painshill Park
  • Geography Fieldwork trips to Hayling Island and Portsmouth
  • Drama trips to see live theatre, both locally and in the West End
  • Art trips to galleries and cathedrals

The PE department also run several trips to see live sporting events, for example; basketball at the O2, international football matches and on one lucky occasion Wimbledon tennis.

There are also a variety of residential trips during half terms and school holidays which further enhance the curriculum. Recent trips and those we have yet to come are:

  • Jazz Band trip to Amsterdam (May 2023)
  • Watersports in France (July 2023)
  • Berlin (October 2023)
  • Sports tour to Holland (April 2024)
  • Ski trip to Italy (April 2025)
  • Krakow (May 2025)
  • Year 7 camp (July 2025)
  • Iceland (February 2026)
  • Florida (2026)

Year 7 Residential

Each year, at the end of the Summer Term, Year 7 are invited to attend a residential camp with the whole year group.

The aim of the trip is to allow Year 7 students, having done their first full year of secondary school, a chance to really get to know one another, to break down any barriers, to strengthen budding friendships and to promote new found independence. With team building at the heart of the time away, the group busy themselves with outdoor activities including kayaking, bungee roping, archery, climbing and of course, camping!

In 2024 students will be enjoying a Bushcraft camp in the heart of Gloucestershire. Please click here to view the parent information presentation.

The students always return full of energy, enthusiasm and vigour ready to take on Year 8.

Sports Tour

The PE Department plan an international Sports Tour for Football and Netball every two years.  During their few days away the teams compete against other schools from the country they are visiting whilst also seeing the sights and enjoying the culture that an overseas trip provides.

In 2017, the tour went to Malta and in 2024 they visited Holland.

The tour normally takes place over the Easter break and is open to students in Year 8 and 9.

Jazz Tour

Our Music department offer a Jazz tour during the May half term and this occurs every other year, the last one taking place in 2023.  The tour is open to musicians and singers from all year groups and normally lasts around five days.

In 2023, the tour visited Holland enjoying visits to the Clog & Cheese Factory, a day trip to Amsterdam, a theme park and most importantly performing at three outdoor musical concerts. Previous destinations include the Black Forest, Salzburg, Paris, Verona and Barcelona. The trip is a fun, cultural and motivational experience for all budding musicians.

Iceland

Our Geography and Science departments enjoy taking students in Year 10 and Year 11 to the wonderful country of Iceland. In 2024, they flew to Reykjavik and spent five days visiting the amazing geological features that the country has to offer, including the Secret Lagoon, the Kerid Crater and Gulfoss.
