29/01/2026Book of the Week After the War by @TomPalmerauthor
Tom Palmer’s After the War is a powerful and accessible choice for Holocaust Memorial Day because it follows three young survivors arriving in the Lake District after liberation from the Nazi concentration camps.
The story gently guides students to understand both the unimaginable trauma these children endured and the hope they tried to rebuild in a new country.
As a school community, it encourages us to reflect on resilience, compassion, and the responsibility we all share to challenge prejudice wherever it appears.
29/01/2026Stories have the power to open our eyes to experiences far beyond our own.
To commemorate Holocaust Memorial day the library has a display of Holocaust fiction and survivor stories throughout the month of January.
Through the voices of survivors and the characters inspired by them, readers can make a connection with history . These narratives help young people recognise the human impact of prejudice and hatred, nurturing empathy and a deeper understanding of why remembrance matters.
In sharing these stories, we honour those who suffered.

23/01/2026Poetry Live 2026
Our Year 11 students had the unique opportunity to hear some of their GCSE poems come to life, read aloud by the famous poets themselves!
We heard from Imtiaz Dharker, Carol Ann Duffy, Owen Sheers, Daljit Nagra, and John Agard, and whilst some poets were from a different cluster, they were still engaging, impressive, and have certainly inspired a few to read their work too!
We are immensely proud of how the students presented themselves, one student even got to ask Imtiaz Dharker for advice on how to become a poet!
Carol Ann Duffy - "A poem is dead unless it has a reader."
